Dr. Iain Campbell, PhD

Dr. lain Campbell is the Baszucki Research Fellow in Metabolic Psychiatry at the University of Edinburgh where he completed his PhD in Global Health. He lives with Bipolar Disorder Type 2 which informs his work from lived experience. 

Dr. Campbell’s research investigates bipolar disorder from a new perspective, as a possible dysregulation of metabolism and energy in the brain. He was a co-principal investigator on a pilot study of a ketogenic diet for bipolar disorder and is a workstream lead on the UKRI Medical Research Council Hub for Metabolic Psychiatry.

His work has been published in Nature press journals Molecular Psychiatry, Translational Psychiatry and The British Journal of Psychiatry Open and he has presented his work at The Royal College of Psychiatrists International Congress, The International Society of Bipolar Disorders and Mayo Clinic Grand Rounds. 

Dr. Campbell is a husband and father to a 2 and 4 year old, and in his free time he is a composer who tries to reflect aspects of living with bipolar in his work, his music has been featured on Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, Star Trek: Picard and CBS: FBI.
